The French Riviera or Côte d’Azur is a French tourist Mecca. Located on the Mediterranean coast, it attracts, including Monaco, 14 million visitors of which 52 percent come from abroad. In addition to its fantastic climate of abundant sunshine and mild winters, the Côte d’Azur possesses a variety of landscapes including of course, a sea front with magnificent beaches, as well as beautiful countryside scenery and mountains. The only negative aspect of this paradise is the urbanization campaigns which invaded the coast in the 1950s and 60s in order to keep up with the growing number of tourists, adding concrete towers to the existing landscape. There are however, a number of preserved areas where the modern tourist can still find the original charm of this Eden like region. Among these, the most chic is undoubtedly Cap Ferrat the peninsula of multi-millionaires. Protected by a law forbidding all construction, it’s a truly exceptional site, which even has a three-hectare zoo. Cap Ferrat was and still is one of the vacation spots preferred by celebrities which have included Leopold II of Belgium, Charlie Chaplin, Jean Cocteau and Romy Schneider. It’s not surprising therefore that one of France’s mythical palace hotels is located here.

A legend with a new look

The Grand Hôtel du Cap Ferrat opened in 1908 at the tip of the peninsula, facing the Mediterranean and therefore an ideal location, heightened by the immaculate white color of the hotel’s “Belle Epoque” façade. From the outset it was meant for a wealthy clientele and immediately became a favorite spot for visitors wanting to take full advantage of the Côte d’Azur without living in the heart of it. The 73 rooms and suites offer the highest level of luxury and are totally adapted to today’s needs and tastes since the hotel closed its doors for two years and reopened in 2009 after a total renovation, keeping intact the design work of Pierre-Yves Rochon, who restored all of the building’s splendor and at the same time, built La Résidence, with among others, eight ultra luxurious suites, each with its own private swimming pool. The hotel also possesses a private 550 square meter villa, the Villa Rose-Pierre, decorated by Alberto Pinto and located on the lush, green seven-hectare property. With its vast rotundas, arches, columns and its glass dome designed by Gustave Eiffel, the Grand Hôtel du Cap Ferrat has the timeless charm of a classic palace hotel. The spa measures 750 square meters with an infinity pool considered one of the most beautiful in the world. The Grand Hôtel du Cap Ferrat combines contemporary services and comfort without sacrificing its classical roots. To top things off, Le Cap, the hotel’s restaurant, directed by Chef Didier Anés has been awarded a star by the prestigious Michelin guide.

The most beautiful suite is undoubtedly the Cocteau suite. Located on the roof the hotel, it possesses an incredible panoramic view of the sea which can be enjoyed on the suite’s 100 square meter terrace.
