Prague

Since the 1990s, Prague has been one of primary tourist destinations in central Europe. Every year, visitors come here in great numbers to discover its splendor, including the famous Prague castle, steeped in history, the bridges over the Vitava and its city hall. One of the most frequented spots is Wenceslas Square, part of one of Prague’s main squares which, under the reign of Charles IV, was the site of a horse market. Today, it has become a broad avenue, lined with lime trees, shopping centers, restaurants and bars. Up above, there’s an equestrian statue of Wenceslas, the king of the country, who after having been canonized, became the patron saint of the Czech Republic. It was on this square that the important events of the 20^th century took place like declaring the country a republic in 1918, or the demonstrations that were held in the late 80s during the “Velvet Revolution.” Adjacent to this site, in the next square, visitors can discover the National Museum, an imposing building that still bears traces of the famous Prague spring of 1968. Another important square is the Old City, located in the historical center of Prague and dominated by the two-towered Gothic church known as Our Lady of Tyne, with magnificent paintings and the tomb of the astronomer, Tycho de Brahe.
