Marrakech

Attractive and irresistible Marrakech is a city with a thousand year old history. Like Fes or Meknes, it’s an imperial city but with the distinct privilege of having given its name to the entire country.

Behind its ochre colored ramparts, Marrakech’s heritage is represented by its numerous palaces and mosques, the most famous of which is the Koutoubia mosque, which dominates the city with its 70 meter high minaret. The colorful souks, perfumed with the aroma of exotic spices, the ongoing street attractions at the Place Jemaa el-Fna and the Majorelle and Menara gardens are all fascinating attractions of the “red city.”

Visitors in search of peace and quiet however, can take advantage of the mythical Palmeraie, just a few kilometers from the city. Its 1200 hectares possess 100,000 palm trees, making it one of Morocco’s most beautiful oases.

Created during the 11th century by the Almoravides dynasty, the Palmeraie is as emblematic of the ochre city as the Medina or the Koutoubia.

This favorite destination of multi-millionaires and show business celebrities represents an exceptional natural heritage.

A Moorish design villa

Just a few minutes from Marrakech, far from the hyperactivity and noise of the old city, the Villa Jardin Nomade is a new type of hotel in that it’s a luxurious private villa with all the services of a hotel.

Sprung from the imagination of former tour operator, Michel Sautereau, the villa is a jewel of serenity and refinement, idealfor a vacation with family or friends. In the heart of a lush garden with centuries old olive trees, palms mandarins as well as thousands of roses, we discover a modern villa created by Karim El Achak, one of the most talented Moroccan architects of his generation, with its Moorish inspired façade facing the Atlas Mountains. Discreetly separated from the villa, a small pavilion surrounded by grass and oleander completes the « Villa Jardin Nomade hotel ».

The Villa contains 4 spacious, comfortable, design rooms, each one different from the others. The interior design is the work of Raymond Morel, the architect who created the décor of numerous design hotels including the Murano and the Kube in Paris. The rooms combine contemporary design with traditional ethnic qualities. A camelsaddle turned into a console thanks to a glass tray place above it, a former Berber door transformed in to coffee table, white stucco walls decorated with antique jewels and framed costumes, and spacious bathrooms covered with traditional black and ivory tadelakt create an elegant, comfortable and warm space.

During the day, the interior is bathed in natural light thanks to large raw metal openings. And for more intimacy, each suite, on the ground floor and upstairs has an independent entrance and its own terrace.

In the Pavilion, the atmosphere is even more intimate, with the use of raw materials including a pebble stone bed head, stone sinks and walls and floors in tadelakt with aluminium dividers. This updated version of an ethnic style consists of blend of African fabrics, Berber kilims and traditional Moroccan objects.

In the garden, designed by landscape artist Jean-Charles Mazet, we find the same ancestral influence, with small traditional mud brick walls that outline paths for strolling, in the middle of a lush oasis surrounded by mandarin, orange, palm and centuries old olive trees. A bit further on, we find a rose garden with several thousand flowers that perfume the atmosphere, and a vegetable garden.

In this idyllic setting, guests can dive into the turquoise water of the swimming pool before enjoying a traditional mint tea under the huge tent. And for dining, an attentive team of 6 are is your service to prepare traditional Moroccan meals including subtle tajines and couscous, with organic vegetables, aromatic plants and spices from the vegetable garden.

At night, the swimming pool is discreetly lit by a multitude of candles for an enchanting evening under the stars.
